Privacy Policy

Serendipity ("we", "us") is a dating application available at meetbyserendipity.com. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the choices you have. Trust is our priority — we collect only what the service needs to work, and we design the app so that the most sensitive thing you share, your conversations, cannot be read by anyone but you and your match.

1. Data we collect

Account and profile

• Phone number (used to sign in) and recovery email address
• Name, date of birth, gender, height, hobbies, lifestyle answers (smoking, drinking), and relationship intention
• Optional birth time and birth place, used only to compute astrological compatibility (Shio and Big Three charts)
• Profile photos and optional profile video
• MBTI type and compatibility quiz answers

Verification data

• A live selfie, compared against your profile photos using automated face comparison
• A photo of your government ID (KTP) and the ID number extracted from it, used to confirm you are a real, unique person

Location and device

• Approximate location, used to show you nearby people and apply your distance filter
• Device identifiers and push notification tokens, used to deliver messages, calls, and match notifications

Usage and billing

• Likes, matches, blocks, and reports, used to run discovery and keep the community safe
• Subscription status and billing history if you purchase a paid plan

2. What we can never see: your messages

All messages, voice notes, photos shared in chat, and call signaling are protected with end-to-end encryption based on the Signal protocol. Encryption keys are generated and stored only on your device. Our servers relay encrypted envelopes without the ability to decrypt them — not even we can read your messages or listen to your calls. Message history is stored encrypted on your device, not on our servers.

3. How we use your data

• To create and secure your account (including single-device session enforcement)
• To show your profile to other members and compute compatibility insights
• To verify that members are real and of legal age
• To deliver notifications for messages, calls, matches, and subscription reminders
• To process subscription payments and manage your plan
• To investigate reports and enforce our Terms of Service

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not show third-party advertising.

4. Automated processing

Verification uses automated face detection and face comparison: your selfie is compared to your profile photos, and your profile photos are checked to contain a human face. ID photos are processed with optical character recognition (OCR) to read the ID number. These checks run on our own infrastructure; verification images are not shared with third parties.

5. Payments

Payments are processed by Xendit, our payment gateway. Your card or e-wallet details are entered on and handled by Xendit — we never receive or store your full payment credentials. We store only the transaction outcome, plan, amount, and billing period needed to manage your subscription.

6. Sharing

We share data only with:

• Other members: your profile as you have chosen to present it (never your phone number, email, ID, or exact location)
• Service providers that help us run Serendipity: payment processing (Xendit), push notification delivery (Google FCM, Apple APNs), and email delivery for verification codes
• Authorities, when required by applicable law

7. Retention and deletion

• You can delete your account at any time from the app settings. Deletion removes your profile, photos, matches, and verification data from our systems.
• Because messages are stored only on devices, deleting the app deletes your local message history; we hold no readable copy.
• Billing records are retained as required by financial regulations.
• Reports and moderation records may be retained after account deletion where needed to keep the community safe.

8. Security

Beyond end-to-end encryption for conversations, local app data is stored in an encrypted database on your device, connections to our servers use TLS, and your account works on only one device at a time — signing in on a new device immediately signs out the old one.

9. Age requirement

Serendipity is for adults aged 18 and over. We verify age through date of birth and ID verification, and we remove accounts of anyone under 18.

10. Your rights

You may access and update your profile data in the app, and request a copy or deletion of your personal data by contacting us. We respond to requests within 30 days.

11. Changes to this policy

We will update this page when the policy changes and revise the "Last updated" date above. For significant changes, we will notify you in the app.
